History of English River Pellets, Inc.  12/12/08 8:06:39 AM

The foundation of English River Pellets, Inc. was laid in 1964. Ten Kalona stockholders founded the company to make the exceptional performance and efficiency of pelleted feed available to livestock producers in the Kalona area.

In 1966 Mr. Ed Hershberger was hired to manage the company. In 1975, he and Mr. Bob Redhair purchased the company. Under their leadership, the company has expanded grain storage capacity from 32,000 bushels to 2.4 million bushels. Feed production has grown into a two-shift operation involving four facilities.

In 1990, Hershberger Feeds of Kalona was purchased, making the nutritional benefit of extruded whole soybeans available in many ERP livestock formulations, as well as adding more choice in livestock rations.

In 1991, Iowa Feeds, Inc., of Washington, Iowa, was purchased to provide additional manufacturing capacity and customer convenience. Additional grain storage was built. NRG nutritional supplement is also manufactured for use in a wide range of livestock rations.

Throughout the 35+ year history of English River Pellets, the focus has consistently been on manufacturing feeds of the highest quality using specific ingredients formulated to include the most up-to-date nutritional research. All ERP feed formulas are continuously evaluated, compared and reviewed. Formulas are updated when research shows improved feed performance by our team of consulting nutritionists. As the line of ERP feeds has evolved and expanded to include concentrates and pre-mixes, the focus on quality and performance has been consistently maintained.

A significant key to company growth and development has been the skilled and loyal employees who provide the day-in, day-out service that meets our customers' needs. In recent years, qualified employees have become part owners.
